Audition Details & Information. Disney’s Descendants ~What to expect for auditions.

&COMPANY is Super excited to Present:

Disney Descendants The Musical ~Auditions~ Saturday, April 22nd 2023

Saturday Auditions will be held at 3080 I-70BL, Grand Junction 81504 (Reverent Rhythms Side of building)

Support, Minor, Ensemble and Understudy roles are available for all experience levels.

Seeking Choir singers, Ensemble members & Featured Dancers (hip hop, jazz, funk, acro & tricks) Ages 10+

All who audition are expected to attempt & experience Musical Theatre Dance auditions with Mrs. Lana. They will split into 2 groups-

1) Ensemble/Movers 2) Leads/Featured Dancers

Please have summer schedule conflicts, performance experience resume, phone number and email address ready at auditions. There will be forms to fill out as you arrive & you will receive an audition name tag or number. Parent/Guardian signature needed for performers under the age of 18yrs. Headshots are not required. Low stress, safe, fun & welcoming environment.

*If you can NOT be present for auditions & would like to be involved in the cast, please contact Mrs. Lana for other options before 4/22.

-If you are UNABLE to attend the scheduled auditions on April 22nd and would like to be considered for a Lead/Understudy or Featured Dancer role, prior communication & attendance to preview rehearsal is a must to be considered for lead roles. Preview Rehearsal April 16th. 7-8:30pm (Please refer to information in ‘Upcoming Events’ Preview Audition Choreo rehearsal event for more details. *THIS OPTION HAS EXPIRED for Lead role candidates.) You will also need to submit a vocal audition video and our audition form before audition date. You can submit your video via fb messenger or email and request an Audition Form before April 22nd. We can accept late submissions for ensemble, choir and production crews. Communication is the key!

Audition schedule:

*please arrive 15 minutes ahead of scheduled time to check in.

12:30pm- Ensemble/Minor roles VOCAL #43 “Break this down” (Finale show song)

1:30pm- Informational meeting for ALL

2:00pm- ALL Musical DANCE (Movers & Dancers) #43 “Break this down” (Finale show song)

3:00pm- Leads/ Featured Dancers DANCE “Rotten to the core” (Instrumental version from movie)

3:30pm- Leads/Support roles VOCAL

Ensemble/ Minor role auditions 12:30-3pm

-Vocal Audition: Learn part of Ensemble Finale song #43 “Break this down” at auditions, sing in small groups with opportunity to solo audition on spot.

-Info meeting

-Musical Theatre Dance audition: ALL will learn show choreo to #43 “Break this down” (Finale show song) *Please wear comfortable clothes and clean shoes to move in.

-Call back auditions may not be needed for Ensemble or Minor roles. Small speaking parts & Features will be cast during rehearsals from our attending Ensemble members.

Leads/Support role auditions: 1:30-4:30ish (Could go longer depending on turn out)

*Lead roles: Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Ben & Maleficent require solo vocal & dance performance experience.

-Info meeting

-Musical Theatre Dance audition: ALL will learn show choreo. *Please wear comfortable clothes and clean shoes to move in.

-Lead roles & Featured dancers will learn another 4 counts of 8 of show choreo to “Rotten to the core” (Instrumental version from movie)

-Featured Dancers please have 2-4 counts of 8 ready to show off your skills.

-Vocal audition: Bring in less than 2 minutes of a song of choice. Plug in and Bluetooth will be available.

-Non singing role audition: Bring in a monologue less than 2 minutes.

Director’s only preference in song choice or monologue is that it’s appropriate/family friendly. *You will be asked to stop at 2 mins.

CALL BACK Auditions: Sunday, April 23rd 6pm-8:30pm. Different location for Call backs.

(Some roles will not need to be seen for call backs)

READ & SING THRU: Pick up Materials & Meet the Cast April 30th 6-8pm. Different Location for Read & Sing Thru.

Disney’s Descendants Production dates: July 21, 22, 23, 29 & 30th. Tech week starts July 16th.

Show Contract Fee: $45 per performer.

This fee helps to cover some costume and material costs, dedicates your commitment, gets you 2 comp tickets & a show shirt.

Sponsorships, traded services and options to cover fee is available. For details please contact Mrs. Lana. ~ There are plenty of ways to cover Show fees with volunteer hours!

*Options for Contract Fee 1.) Pay full fee. 2.) Pay $15 Fee + Pledge 2.5 hours. 3.) Pledge 5 volunteer hours.

There is NO fee to audition. Show Contract Fee/Pledge commitments are due April 30th.

Disney’s Descendants Show Synopsis

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney's Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical jam-packed with comedy, adventure, Disney characters, and hit songs from all 3 the films!

Imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost – home of the most infamous villains who ever lived – the teenaged children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil have never ventured off the island… until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

Disney’s Descendants Musical Character Breakdown

====================== Teen & Young Adult roles: Villian Kids

Mal- LEAD Role- Vocals: Mezzo-Soprano, Alto - Our hero and Maleficent’s daughter. Under her hardened, sarcastic exterior, she has a sense of justice and a heart of gold.

Evie- LEAD Role- Vocals: Mezzo-Soprano, Alto - The Evil Queen Grimhilde’s daughter. She hides her brilliance behind a superficial, image-obsessed attitude.

Jay- LEAD Role- Vocals: Tenor - Jafar’s son. An outwardly arrogant thief. He conceals a strategic, collaborative nature.

Carlos- LEAD Role- Vocals: Tenor - Cruella de Vil’s son. Despite a fear of dogs and just about everything else, he has the capacity to be brave and kind.

====================== Adult roles: Evil Parents

Maleficent- LEAD Role- Vocals: Mezzo-Soprano, Alto- The infamous evil fairy. She is a profoundly selfish absentee parent with an unquenchable taste for vengeance.

The Evil Queen- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Mezzo-Soprano, Alto- Snow White’s wicked adversary. An aging beauty queen, she is still desperate to be the fairest of them all.

Jafar- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Baritone - Aladdin’s nemesis. He is a slimy, washed-up crime lord desperate for a way back to the top.

Cruella De Vil- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Alto - A Dalmatian-loving dog-snatcher. She is an obsessive, eccentric, and overbearing helicopter mom.

====================== Teen & Young Adult roles: Auradon Prep Students

Ben- LEAD Role- Vocals: Tenor - Son of the Beast and Belle. He is a classically regal, optimistic kid who bears the weight of soon becoming King of Auradon.

Chad- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Baritone - Cinderella and Prince Charming’s son. An arrogant and spoiled blockhead, he’s never wanted for anything.

Audrey- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Alto - Sleeping Beauty’s daughter. The malicious queen bee of Auradon Prep, she has her eye on the throne.

Doug- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Baritone - Dopey’s son. Nerdy and sweet, he does all the work that his fellow students don’t want to do.

Jane- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Mezzo-Soprano, Alto - Fairy Godmother’s daughter. Meek and mousy, but hungry for attention, she’s looking for her moment to shine.

Royal Page- MINOR Role- Auradonian messenger, enormously nervous. (Non-Singing Role)

======================= Adult Roles: Auradon Parents & Adults

King Beast- SUPPORT Role - Ben’s father and King of Auradon. Royal and rule-driven, he knows a bit about being marginalized. (Non-Singing role)

Queen Belle- SUPPORT Role - Ben’s mother and Queen of Auradon. Warm, but cautious, she doesn’t understand her son’s generation. (Non-Singing role)

Fairy Godmother- SUPPORT Role- Vocals: Mezzo-Soprano, Alto - Headmistress of Auradon Prep. Busy and bubbly, she’ll do anything to keep the school afloat.

Maurice- FEATURE Role- Chemistry teacher and Belle’s father. He is kooky and stuck in his ways. (Non-Singing role)

Coach- FEATURE Role- Tourney coach, resigned to the team’s mediocrity until meeting a surprise star player. (Non-Singing role)

Snow White- FEATURE Role- Red carpet reporter. She is the voice of the masses. (Non-Singing role)

Royal Guard- MINOR Role- Museum employee, less than vigilant. (Non-Singing role)

======================== Ages 10 & Up: Adult & Student Ensemble

Ensemble- MINOR Roles include: Isle Ensemble (including Smitten Kids 1 & 2), Auradonians (including Auradonians 1 & 2), Coronation Crowd (including Crowd Members 1, 2 & 3), Auradonian Choir, Featured Dancers & Movers.
